Steward was temporarily in charge of the High-weight' Handicap field at Oamaru. but failed to stay on.

Typhoon is now a good favourite for the Great Easter Handicap and Great Autumn Handicap double. Acceptances for the Waimate meeting are due to-morrow, for the Beaumont meeting on Thursday, and for the Riverton meeting on Friday. Donegal Bay scored his first win this season when he won the Railway Handicap at Trentham. Last season he won twice in 10 start's.

Sixty-seven horses have been nominated for the Middle East Hack Handicap, to be run over seven furlongs at the Riccarton patriotic meeting.

B. J. Mears and W. J. Hillis, who were injured when their mounts fell at Invercargill, have been discharged from hospital and will be able to resume riding again shortly. Top price at the Wellington sales for the horses in training was made by Jannie Girl, who was sold at 650gns. She is a three-year-old filly by Battle Song—Paper Rose, by Paper Money—Christmas Rose, by Heliotrope. Solario, whose death is reported from England, was sold under the hammer at £49.350. He was a good winner and a successful sire.

Saludos, carrying 91b more weight, won over a mile in the same time as Dileas put up to win the Thompson Handicap. Saludos is a five-year-oid gelding by Salmagundi—Baliasalia, by Woodend— Orderdown, by Glenculloch. The Oamaru Jockey Club deserves credit for holding a meeting in the face of difficul'.ies created by the lack of transport In the circumstances the meeting proved a success.

Dileas, the winner of the Thompson Handicap, is a three-year-old gelding by Dink—Cradle Song, by Lucullus—Husheen, by Hymettus. In 10 starts this season Dileas, who is owned by Messrs J. and L. He is very pleased with the recently imported stallion Lord Bobs, a son of Nearco. Lqrd Bobs bears a strong resemblance to his 60,000guinea sire, who made the world’s record price for a thoroughbred. The brood mare Florence Mills, who, with a Nizami colt foal at foot, made 1400 guineas at the Wellington sales, was a smart sprinter. She was foaled in 19^4, and was got bv Nigger Nu 1S by Lord Quex—Loveniatch, by Martian Jumnar, with a Battle Song colt at, foot, made 700 guineas. She was got by Bulandshar—Liaison, by Lord Quex. Palissy. the winner of the Plunket Han dicap at Wellington, van unplaced m three previous starts. He is a brown colt by Robin Goodfellow from Dresden China, the dam of Greek Shepherd. Dresden China was got by Tea Tray—Refinement, Gy Shepherd King-Elegance, by Seaton Delaval— Antelope, by ApremonL PaUssy belongs to the same family as p har Lap. Robin Goodfellow was got by Son and Heir (son of Son-In-Law).
