THE CHINA CAMPAIGN CHUNGKING. (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) Mar. 16. Chinese despatches report that the entire Japanese-occupied stretch of the Yangtse River from the mouth to Angking, 364 miles up the river, has been closed to commercial navigation, apparently as a precaution against an American landing. The Japanese are also reported to have ordered the evacuation of all Japanese nationals from Hangchow. The first group is i eported to have left for Manchuria. The Chinese High Command announced attacks against Japanese positions south-west of Yu-Hsein, 45 miles east-north-east of Hengyang and one of the strongholds guarding the Canton-Hankow railway. It was indicated that these attacks were in preparation for a full-scale Chinese counter-offensive. An American communique reported that United States fighters and bombers on Wednesday attacked targets in Indo-China noith-east of Hanoi and at Pingsang.
