SALES OF BREAD

PROVISION OF WRAPPINGS BAKERS SUPPORT RETAILERS’ OBJECTION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 16. Agreement that the retailers were not allowed sufficient profit to cover the cost of wrapping bread was expressed last night by delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Master Bakers and Pastrycooks’ Association. Doubt was voiced whether the public would be willing to pay the cost of wrapping loaves in the bakehouse. The president, Mr H. E. Fairey, said the medical profession, which had put forward the suggestion that bread should be sent out wrapped from the bakehouse, and also the public, could not. have any idea of the cost involved. The council of the association was directed to supply to the press figures showing the capital outlay which would be necessary for bread to be wrapped in any bakehouse and the increased cost to the public which would result.
