FOURTEENTH AIR FORCE

OPERATIONS IN CHINA NO INTENTION OF QUITTING (Rec. 7 p.m.) CHUNGKING, Jan. 6. General Chennault stated that the 14th Air Force, without loss, destroyed 241 Japanese planes in December, the best month in its history, in spite of the loss of 14 air bases last autumn. He added that it had also sunk 73,950 tons of shipping and probably sank 113,900 tons in December. Discounting newspaper reports that the 14th Air Force may quit China, General Chennault predicted that “it will still be operating in China when the last Japanese has passed through the gates of the prison camp. We are hitting the enemy harder and exacting heavier toll every day ”
