TRAIN DELAYED

SLIP ON TARANAKI LINE (P.A,) HAWERA, Jail. 4. A slip on the New Plymouth-Wel-lington line two miles south of Mokuta completely blocked rail traffic for some hours to-day. The southbound express with 300 passengers left Hawera at 10.55 this morning, about 40 minutes late, and passengers had to walk across the slip to a special train which had been sent up from Wanganui. The luggage was conveyed by lorry. The line was blocked in a cutting which runs through a gorge, and the slip followed a heavy and continuous downpour throughout the night. A northbound goods train ran into the slip at 7.45 a.m., but was undamaged.
