PURCHASE IN CANADA

MOTOR TRUCKS FOR AUSTRALIA NEW YORK, Jan. 2. The Australian Minister of Customs, Senator A, V. Keane, announced that for the first time since Pearl Harbour motor trucks for Australian essential civilian use will be procured in Canada in 1945, as well as from the United States. Approximately 5000 truck chassis will be obtained from Canada. There is a possibility that a fux-ther 1200 vehicles will be procured. This depends upon the progress made in the first quarter of 1945. The position in the United States is more difficult, because United States production will not meet essential civilian needs. Only 400 vehicles have been allocated to Australia from American production for the first quarter of 1945. The Australian requirements from both the United States and Canada total 9000 trucks.
