FARMING INTERESTS

DELEGATION FROM BRITAIN DISCUSSION OF POST-WAR POLICY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 12. A delegation from the headquarters of the National Farmers’ Union of England will arrive at Auckland from overseas to-morrow. Representatives of revolutionised British agriculture, the party will spend some weeks in the Dominion visiting farming districts and the chief centres of farming production. The purpose of the visit is to discuss preliminary arrangements for post-war collaboration. The itinerary of the delegation includes Canada and Australia, and it is possible that South Africa will also be visited. Through these discussions it is hoped to lead the way to collaboration in a policy of post-war production which will conduce to the confidence of the British farmers as well as to the prosperity of his fellow in the Empire. The .only Empire producers’ confer-ence-was held in Sydney in 1938, and it is expected that the possibility of holding a similar conference in the early post-war years will be introduced into the discussions held with the present delegation. The delegation comprises Messrs James Turner, vice-president of the National Farmers’ ' Union. Ratcliffe Giles, G. M. Browne, W. Young, and George Irvine. Included in the party are representatives Of the Scottish Farmers’ Union and an economist, while Mr Turner is a British fruitgrower who is especially interested in the fruit industry of the Dominion and the cultural methods employed. A formal welcome will be extended to the members of the party on their arrival at Wellington.
