BAR TO D.F.C.
MILTON OFFICER’S AWARD ATTACKS ON GERMAN TARGETS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. Flight Lieutenant John George Grey, D.F.C., was last month awarded a bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross. The citation, which has now been received by the Air Department, states that he has completed many sorties as a captain of aircraft since winning the original award, and has at all times displayed a high sense of duty and undiminished enthusiasm. . The majority of Flight Lieutenant Grey's sorties, the citation states, were against heavily-defended targets in Germany, and his imperturbability and steady determination in the face of heavy enemy opposition contributed to the successes achieved. Flight Lieutenant Grey, who was engaged in farm work before he enlisted in 1940, is aged 27. Earlier he qualified for his second mates ticket and attended navigation classes for three years aboard the M.V. Durham. He also attended the Thames Nautical College for two years. He obtained his secondary education at John McGlashan College. His brother is Mr W. R. Grey, of Milburn.
