ALLIED AIR COMMANDER
SIR TRAFFORD LEIGH-MALLORY (Rec, 7 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 15. The* Air Ministry announced that Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory has been released from his appointment as air commander-in-chief of the ( Allied Expeditionary Force as from to-day to take up the post of Allied Air Com-
mander-in-Chief in South-east Asia, in succession to Sir Richard- Peirse. who has served in India and Soufh-east Asia since January, 1942. The Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces will exercise the command of all the air forces now or later placed under his command through authority delegated by him to the Deputy Supreme Commander. The Deputy Supreme Commander, in addition to his other duties, is directly responsible for the co-ordina-tion of air operations in support of tht Allied Expeditionary Forces. The Exchange Telegraph correspondent at Allied headquarters says: “Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory's appointment as Allied Air Commander-in-Chief in South-East Asia emphasises the determination of the British and American effort against Japan. The Allies obviously intend to apply in the East extensive use of the air power which has been developed in the West under Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory’s control.”
