LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

- Ravensboume. —Mrs Cooper presided at a social on Thursday evening and extended a welcome to members of the Provincial Council of the Mothers’ Union and relatives of local servicemen. Mrs Jones, provincial president, wished the branch every success. Floral tributes were presented to Mesdames Jones, Cooper, Nevvey, Cairney, and Campbell, and also to the soldiers’ relatives. The choir, under Mrs Newey, provided an enjoyable programme Mesdames McKenzie, McPheison, Dawson, and Newey presented an amusing playette. ' , Opoho.—Mrs Di-ake presided at a ” fathers’ night.” An address on the declining birth rate and some of the effects it would have on the future of the Dominion was given by Mr H. I. Sinclair. Vocal solos were rendered by Miss Jean McLay and pianoforte solos by Master Kenneth Turner. / Dunedin North.—Mrs Harvey gave an interesting talk on the women of India. The thought brought by Mrs McCrone was, “We expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that we can do, any kindness that we can show to any fellow creature, let us do it now. Let us not defer nor neglect it, for we shall not pass this way again.” Two delightful songs were sung by Mrs Davidson, of the Caversham branch, her accompanist being Mrs Sparrow.
