AN APPEAL FOR THE LEPERS
Sir,—As advocate for the leper sufferers at Makogal, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, New Caledonia. New Hebrides, and the British South Solomons, numbering 2500, I wish to thank your numerous readers for kindly responding to the request for help. It was unfortunate that our appeal took place during the period of the Victory Loan, but now that this has been brought to a successful conclusion I shall be grateful for a few stray crumbs, tokens of your readers’ sympathy. Last year 65 patients were discharged as cured from Makogal, making a grand total of 675 discharged since this station was opened. New Zealand’s sympathy to these sufferers has considerably helped to bring about this splendid result and our Dominion can justly be proud of this achievement. We hope that our few remaining baskets will be filled when we close the appeal on November 15.—1 am, etc., P. J. Twomey, Secretary, Lepers’ Trust Board. Christchurch.
