PETROL LICENSING BREACH

JUDGMENT IN FARMING CASE (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 7. Farmers granted petrol under consumers’ licences for use in particular machines may " not use the petrol in other vehicles without the consent of the Oil Fuel Controller. This is the effect of an important judgment given' by Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M., when Darien Neave Sutton, a farmer, was convicted for using petrol granted for use in a farm tractor, in a truck for haysweeping and transporting workers to his farm for haymaking. Mr Woodward said the purpose of the regulation was to prevent waste m uneconomic units. Sutton’s breach may not have been intentional, or dishonest, but the controller should have been advised. Sutton was fined £5.
