Nominations are due to-day for. the Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting. 1 Traverse continued in winning vein at the New Brighton meeting, and is not yet at the end of his success. Avondale Lass who won the Maiden Handicap at the New Brighton meeting, is a four-year-old filly by Gamble. Purveyor was foaled in 1931 and got by Rev de Oro—Watty’s Wish, by Drusus from a mare by Advocate. Purveyor is a half-brother to Netherby. The Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association is to make a move towards the restoration of saddle races. Some members expressed the opinion that there were not sufficient good riders available. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association Mr J. Bryce referred to the rule which requires the same driver to drive a horse throughout a meeting. He said this was a ridiculous rule, and the matter is to come up for further consideration. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association the annual trophies were presented to the winners as follows: —Stallion Shield (and Mr Allan Matson’s trophy). Jack Potts (C. S. Donald); Mr T. G. Foxs gold-mounted whip for the leading reinsman, F. J. Smith; Messrs Trist and Smalls goldmounted whip for the leading trainer, F. J. Smith; Mr E. R. Husband’s goldmounted whip for the leading driver of straight-out trotters, W. J. Doyle.
