POST-WAR SHIPPING

CRACK LINERS FOR BRITAIN CONVERTED AIRCRAFT CARRIERS (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 5. Britain is building huge : aircraft carriers which can be changed into liners after the war, says the Daily Mirror. This will give Britain crack liners more powerful than the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth with which to rule the peace-time seas. The carriers can, be converted into liners' by removing the flight deck and the crews’ quarters. In addition to retaining Britain’s sea supremacy, the new liners will counter, the threat to maritime services caused by the rapid strides in transocean air services. Practically all the existing* liners will have to be reebnditioned or replaced after the war.
