TWO DUNEDIN MEN IN LIST WING COMMANDER SISE’S THIRD AWARD (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 5. Two of the seven recipients of the latest awards to New Zealand airmen serving in Europe have been twice previously decorated. The awards are:— Bar to D.F.C. Wing Commander Gage Derwent Sise, D. 5.0., D.F.C.; father, Mr R. G. Sise, Dunedin.
Flight Lieutenant Peter Francis Locker Hall, D.F.C.; father. Canon A. F. Hall. Gisborne. Distinguished Flying Cross Flight Lieutenant John Ernest Rowntree; father. Mr E. P. Rowntree. Wanganui. Flying Officer William Pembroke Bell; mother, Mrs A. Bell. Havelock North. Acting Flying Officer Charles!Edward Ansley: father. Mr C. W. Ansley, Christchurch. Distinguished Flying Medal Pilot Officer (formerly Flight Sergeant) Eldrid Duke O’Callaghan; mother, Mrs A. R. O’Callaghan, Dunedin. American Distinguished Flying Cross Group Captain John James McKay, D. 5.0., D.F.C.; father, Mr J. C. McKay. Nelson. The citation to Wing Commander Sise’s award states: “Within recent weeks Wing Commander Sise has participated in a number of sorties, during which several enemy ships of varying type have been sunk and others damaged. Much of the success achieved can be attributed to Wing Commander Sise’s great skill, inspiring leadership, and great determination.” Wing Commander Sise, who is 27 vears of age, was born in Dunedin, and educated at the Otago Boys’ High School. At the time of his enlistment in the R.N.Z.A.F. early in the war. he was employed in his father’s office and was studying accountancy at the Otago University. He left for England in -May, 1940. after completing his training in New Zealand.
