POSTMASTER ENTERTAINED
Yesterday afternoon at the Bungalow, Mr M. P. Anderson, the retiring Chief Postmaster, was met by the Mayor (Mr J. C. Kirkness) and citizens to bid him farewell on the eve of his departure for New Plymouth, where Mr and Mrs Anderson and Miss Anderson intend to reside. The Mayor paid a very high tribute to Mr Anderson’s work as Chief Postmaster at Oamaru. He referred to' Mr Anderson’s work as deputy chairman of the War Loan Committee, and chairman of the National Savings Committee. North Otago’s contribution to national savings, he said, had been well maintained, ana that was why'they had been faced with such a high objective, which had been based on eight times the national savings for the district. Miss Shayle-George, said Mr Kirkness. had also played her full part in this important work. He thanked Mr Anderson for his whole-hearted cooperation. and wished him and his wife and daughter every happiness in their new home. ... Mr Kirkness also took the opportunity of giving a cordial welcome to Mr H. A. Colvin, of Invercargill, who has been appointed to the vacancy., ■ • . Other speakers who acknowledged the courtesy and assistance given by Mr Anderson and joined, in good wishes to him and his family, were Messrs A. R. Tait, B. B. Walton, R. G. Millen, C: F. Jones, R A. McDowell, K* Reid, J. Branthwaite, H. P. Kent, H. A. Griffin, and Miss ShayleGsorgc. Messrs Anderson and Colvin made suitable replies.
