ALLIED COMMAND

BRADLEY’S NEW POST AMERICAN ARMY GROUP PRAISE FOR MONTGOMERY (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 31. Changes in the structure of the Allied invasion command are announced by General Eisenhower, who has returned to Britain from France. General O. N. Bradley, as commander of the American Army group, is given equal status with General Montgomery. General Eisenhower said that General Montgomery was given full control in France until the Allies broke out of the beach-head. Now General Bradley was taking over the role outlined on the original strategical plan. “This does not mean demotion for anyone,” General Eisenhower said. “General Montgomery is one of the greatest soldiers of this or any other war.” He paid a tribute to the tremendous battles fought by the British and Canadian forces at Caen, and said that every foot of ground which the Germans lost was equal to 10 miles anywhere else. Every speck of dust was like a diamond to them. When correspondents criticised the slowness of the advance in this sector they should have been bragging about it. , General Bradley will how report direct to Allied Headquarters instead of to General Montgomery.
