OBITUARY

MRS MARY ORR By the death last week of Mrs Mary Orr, at the age of 91 years, Oamaru lost one of its oldest residents. Mrs Orr was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and came to New Zealand with her parents in the ship J. Nicol Fleming, landing at Port Chalmers in 1871. After two years’ residence in the Taieri district, the family came to Oamaru. In 1875 she married Mr James Orr, who carried on a coal and firewood business in Itchen street for many years, and who predeceased her in 1915. Mrs Orr was one of the oldest members of Columba Presbyterian Church. Her kindly and hospitable nature won for her many friends. She is survived by three daughters (Mrs F. li. Hall, Awamo'a road; Mrs E. Lambert, Itchen street; and Mrs L. C. Lawrence, Melbourne), and a son, Mr John Orr, who recently returned from the Middle East after three years’ active service.
