TALBOYS HOSPITAL

Sir,—lt is almost incredible that so much confusion still exists with regard to what are known as Talboys Hospital and Talboys Home. Kindly afford me space to state that the “ hospital" is quite a separate building from the home, and for many years has been run in conjunction with the Public Hospital by an efficient staff of nurses, in training, under the jurisdiction of the Otago Hospital Board. Patients with delayed healings, or classified as incurables, irrespective of age and position, are automatically sent on here from the Public Hospital. The official designation “secondary hospital is stamped on all linen, etc., not Talboys Hospital,” as is so generally supposed. Undoubtedly it is an old building, very old and draughty too, but it is not the cheerless • place it is sometimes inadvertently said to be. When coal is available there is no stint of good fires, and no effort is spared to insure the comfort and happiness of patients, even to the attraction of many flowers which , brighten the wards most of the year. A-great service would be rendered if the chairman of the Hospital Board had this misnomer rectified in the Telephone Directory; and a signpost erected over the main entrance gates in Alexandra street would eliminate endless misunderstandings, fruitless journeys, and erroneous telephone calls.— I am, etc., Patient. Talboys Hospital, July 3.
