IRON BOAT LOST

The harbour master (Captain H. S. Cox) reported to the Oamaru Harbour Board yesterday that the board's iron boat sank at its moorings some time during the night of June 22. Members of the staff were aboard all the previous day renewing the moorings, and everything appeared in order at 4.30 p.m. on June 22. The only explanation was that the boat sprang a leak during the night. It would be impossible to lift the boat, because it was in an advanced stage of decay. He would like the diver to be employed to save a good winch on the boat.
