t i. NEW YORK, July 2. The New York Times reports that Captain Charles Thompson set a transatlantic speed record for commer-
cial planes by completing a 3075 statute miles flight from Foynes to New York in 18 hours 16 minutes, bettering the previous record by 27 minutes.
