ALLIED ADVANCE
HINDERED BY WEATHER FULL AIR POWER NOT USED (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, June 17. It is learned from Allied headquarters that no substantial .Allied advance can be expected until the weather improves. Great as has bean the air force’s assistance, their full potential value is not yet secured. There have' been 10 days of the worst weather which June could have yielded, and in the circumstances the Allied position to-day is regarded as highly satisfactory. In spite of the Americans’ good work west of Pont Labbe, quick progress cannot be expected to the western coastal road, which branches off the main road at La Haye. The German News Agency reports that reinforced American forces, including tanks and motorised units from the Monsurelle region, have opened an offensive towards Saint Lo, and have broken the German line in, various places after hard fighting.
