ROYAL DUNEDIN MALE CHOIR

The Royal Dunedin Male Choir will present the first concert of the fifty-ninth season in the Concert Chamber on Monday week The special choir of the Otago Girls’ High School, under the baton of Mr Roy Spackman, will lake part in this concert, singing a bracket of four part songs. Miss Jean McLay, the possessor of a beautiful -contralto voice, will be the lady soloist, singing " Softly Awakes My Heart ” and " Elegie,” while Mr Ralph Francis will be heard in the cornet solos " One Fine Day ” and “ Berceuse de Jocelyn.” Mr John Pringle and Mr Eric Richardson are the choir soloists. Eight part songs will be sung by the choir, two of which are arrangements by the choir’s conductor, Mr W. L. Francis. These are “ The Song of Victory ” (Chopin’s Polonaise), with which the choir will open its programme, and the hymn tune, ” Rimington.” In lighter vein, Mr Stuart Falconer and the choir will sing sea shanties, “ Blow, Blow, Blow,” and “ O Blow, Ye Winds of Morning.” The part songs “Annabel Lee,” ” When Al!an-a-Dale Went a-Hunting,” “ Come, Gentle Night,” “ The Star of Love,” “ Who Sails with Drake? ” “ The Wanderer’s Song of Joy,” and the hymn “ Jesus Shall Reien ” are of such wide variety as to ensure interesting and enjoyable entertainment. Mr Francis will conduct, and Mr A. H. Pettitt is the society’s official accompanist. The box plan will open at Begg's on Wednesday.
