In the last world war British brains and skill evolved the Tank-outstanding military weapon of the period, and forerunner of the mechanised warfare which has become the most characteristic feature of land fighting in the present conflict. Despite their ingenuity in forging new and powerful weapons for battle, the British peoples have contributed more to the pursuits of peace than those of war. Prominent amongst the benefits Britain has bestowed upon the world is the development of rayon yarn and the many lovely fabrics made from it. In this the firm of Courtaulds was the pioneer. From the first Courtaulds recognised in rayon a power to secure greater comfort _ even greater luxury for people of moderate means. They strove to bring rayon to perfection and succeeded so well that within a generation they had established vast new industries not only in Britain but also in America, Canada and elsewhere. To-day rayon is a great and growing factor in the daily lives of millions. Probably no single achievement has secured a more widespread improvement in standards of living everywhere. The necessities of war have temporarily restricted the amount of Courtaulds rayons at present available. Research and development,' however, continue as assiduously as ever and the results will be seen in lovelier and more versatile rayon fabrics when victory is won. Courtaulds will also be amongst the first British finds to launch forth with new products destined to secure a still higher standard of living.
