ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
There was a large attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the St. John Women’s War Committee held on Tuesday. Those present included Mesdames G. Barnett, R. J. Watts. R. Fulton, D. Smeaton, H. L.
Paterson, E. Halstead, W. Ewing. H. K Wilkinson, A. G. Melville, W, F. Edmond, F. S. Avent, O. J. Begg (secretary), Misses Applegarth and Brown. The chairwoman, Mrs A. A. Fairbairn, gave a. brief account of the activities of the Joint Council. It was reported that the following articles were sent on to Joint Council headquarters from the sewing meeting :—Five pairs of pyjamas, nine dressing gowns, 2b dozen swabs, 30 dozen roller -bandages, and two dozen face cloths. A sub-committee was set up to put m hand the work of providing Christmas parcels for nurses. A good supply of attractive wool is in hand at the present time The committee desires once again to appeal for knitters to assist m the essential work of providing knitted articles for the men of the forces. The wool can be obtained at headquarters. York place any Tuesday afternoon between 2 and 4 On Cl °Monday evening last, Sister W. Irving, hospital dietitian, gave an interesting lecture on “ Diet ” to members of combined nursing divisions. The Women's Transport Division has spent’ a busy month carrying on its various activities. Last week members met at headquarters to hear ah interesting lecture by Mr G. K. Neill on the "Anatomy of the Eye.” Other meeting nights were devoted to the study of circulation and artificial respiration. An event of special interest which took place during the month was that of the marriage of the secretary of the division, Miss Agnes Neill, to Lieutenant R. Baker. Members of the division attended the ceremony at the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church, and formed a guard of honour as she left the church. Miss Neill has been an efficient and enthusiastic member of the division since its inception at the beginning of the war. The president of the association, Mr T. Somerville, invites all members of the Order to join him in the annual observance of St. John’s Day. A service will be held in First Church on the evening of Sunday, June 25, the preacher being the Rev. W. A. Stevely. All members of nursing divisions are asked to parade at headquarters at 5.45 p.m.
