Mrs J. S. Jack and Mrs R. Dawson entertained during the week, in honour of Miss Claire Stevenson, whose wedding will take place to-morrow.

Mrs Lloyd Williams lias returned to Alexandra after attending the wedding of her son, Mr Russell McNeil Henderson, which took place at St John's Churcn, Dunedin, on June 5.

Miss Betty Lorimer, M.8.E.. has returned to New Zealand on short furlough from the Middle East, where she has been working for the last three and a-half years with Miss Jean Begg, of the British Y.W.C.A. She has served in Iraq, Iran, and Teheran.

The Dunedin French Club met on Monday in the Otago Girls' High School library. The programme was arranged by Madame Bellugue. A short play reading of " Son Premier Bal,” in ivhich the parts were taken by Madames Bellugue and Connor, Misses Gosden and Trenwith was followed by an interesting wordguessing competition. The resignation of the club’s former secretary, Miss F. M. Kissling, who has been transferred to Auckland, was accepted with regret.

A pleasant evening was held in the Crawford Lounge on Saturday, June 3, when Mr and Mrs T. Renwick entertained some 130 guests, the occasion being the coming of age of their only child, Oy, a recent debutante at the Otago Girls' High School ex-girls’ ball. After supper and the presentation of the traditional key, the remainder of the evening was spent in modern and old-time dancing, during which a solo was rendered by Mr T. Ballantyne.

The monthly meeting of the Gardening Circle of the Otago Women’s Club was held on Tuesday afternoon, when Miss Martin presided over a large Attendance of members, who had come to hear Mr Tannock speak on what to plant in dry. wet, or shady places. Mr Tannock explained why some plants like one position and some another. He gave a list of the names of plants and shrubs suitable to plant in each place. At the conclusion of the lecture Mrs J. A. Jenkins, on behalf of the members, proposed a vote of thanks.
