OAMARU ATHENAEUM

MONTHLY MEETING The president (Mr K. Stronach) presided at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Athenaeum on Monday night. The town clerk (Mr J. Branthwaite) advised that Mr D. V. G. Smith had been appointed liaison officer. The report from the Visiting Committee stated that books and magazines were being returned in a mutilated and dirty condition, and urged subscribers to be more careful. Messrs R. G. Millen and K. C. McDonald were appointed the Visiting Committee for the month. The librarian (Miss H. M. Ironside) reported that during the month 9238 books were issued and 106 new books purchased. The number on the roll totalled 1246. Accounts totalling £63 15s 6d were passed for payment.
