SOME BANANAS COMING APPLES IN SHORT SUPPLY Supplies of apples were very light during the week, and at the week-end there was a definite shortage. Sturmers and Granny Smiths were the main varieties on offer, with small quantities of Delicious and Jonathans. The market could do with larger supplies of pears, which are now being received ex cool store. Tomatoes are still coming forward. There is only a fair inquiry for outsidegrown, but local hothouse are in good demand. No word has been received regarding the arrival of the next shipment of oranges, but it is understood that they will reach the market in about a fortnight's time. A very small shipment of bananas is expected in a few days’ time. Lemons are in fair supply. The Vegetable Market Cauliflowers are realising high prices, but cabbages continue to be a glut on the market. Marrows are in heavy supply. Pumpkins have a better inquiry, and there is a fair demand for leeks and celery. Carrots and parsnips are wanted, but there is a good supply of swedes. Wholesale Prices Wholesale prices are as follows: — Apples: Delicious, 6s to 7s; Jonathan, 5s 5d to 7s; Sturmers, 4s 6d to 6s; cookers, 4s 6d to 6s. Pears: 11s to 13s per bushel case. Oranges and bananas: Sold out. Lemons: New Zealand, 12s Rd to 21s 6d per case, Tomatoes: Hothouse, 2s to 3s per lb; outside-grown, choice to Is 4d per lb; others, 3d to 6d per lb. Jam melons. Id per lb. Grapes: Gros Colmar to 5s 9d per lb. Passion-fruit, 20s to 22s 6d per case. Tree tomatoes, to Is 8d per lb.

Cauliflowers, 9s to 12s per sack; cabbages, Is to 2s per sack; marrows, 4s to 5s per sack; pumpkins, to Id per lb; parsnips, 16s per cwt; carrots, 11s per cwt; swedes, 2s to 2s 6d per sugar bag; leeks, 5d to 8d per bundle; celery, Is 6d to Is 9d per bundle; artichokes, 2d to 3d per lb; rhubarb, to 3d per lb; silver beet, to 2s per case; Brussels sprouts, 3d to 5d per lb; potatoes, King Edward, to £lO per ton, whites, £8 to £9 per ton; onions, 13s 6d per bag.
