MEAT FOR BUTCHERS
CHANGE IN SUPPLY SYSTEM COUPON VALUE BASIS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 2. A change is to be made in the method of supplying meat to butchers for sale under a rationing alteration which is to come into force with the commencement of the four-weekly period on June 12. On that date butchers will receive permits for supplies of up to two-thirds of their sales in the comparative period, as hitherto, but thereafter replenishments of stock will be obtained only against their actual disposals as shown by their coupon credits, expired permits, contract sales sheets, retail transfer vouchers, and any other documents supporting sales. Full information of the change is contained in the Rationing Trade Bulletin No. 2, which, under the signature of the Rationing Controller, Mr J. E. Thomas, will be circulated to retail butchers within the next few days. The bulletin emphasises that the new arrangement means that the butcher will secure supplies only in accordance with the number of coupons he collects. Any retailer not collecting sufficient coupons to cover his sales will find himself unable to replace his stocks, and his trade will decrease. The retailer, however, who collects the full number of coupons against his sales will have no difficulty in replacing his stocks in full, with a sufficient margin to permit him to increase his turnover.
