BULGARIA ACCEPTS

ULTIMATUM FROM HITLER PRO-NAH AS PRIME MINISTER (Rec. 7 pan.) LONDON, June 1. The Berlin radio states that a new Cabinet has been formed in Bulgaria, with Ivan Bacrianoff as Prime Minister. He was Minister of Agriculture in the former Government. Reuter’s correspondent states that M. Bacrianoff is one of the most proAxis of Bulgaria’s politicians. He visited Hitler and Mussolini in 1941 and resigned the Ministry of Agriculture soon afterwards when the Cabinet rejected his proposals for the reform of national economy on Fascist lines. The Berne correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says the Regency Committee accepted Hitler’s ultimatum that the Germans take over the leadership of the Bulgarian Army. The capitulation is stated to have been made to avoid occupation of the country. According to a Stockholm report the Germans suppressed a mutiny in the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Varna. Two pro-Russian Bulgarian generals, Smitolov and Lukas, are reported to have been imprisoned after the Nazi purge of Bulgarian arms. Moscow radio again attacked the attitude of Bulgaria’s rulers. The commentator warned the Bulgerians that they were playing with fire, adding: “ Hitler occupied Hungary, and the s#me fate awaits Bulgaria.”
