CHARLESTON COALFIELD

PLANS FOR DEVELOPMENT (P.A.) WESTPORT, Apl. 18. In a report on the Charleston coalfield, Mr Powell, who prospected the area for Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., in 1929, says that 18,000,000 tons of coal is a conservative estimate, and is almost certain of recovery. In all probability there is nearly double that tonnage available. The Minister of Mines, Mr P. C. Webb, is due at the week-end to consider plans for the development of this field.
