HOUSE FLY MENACE

CONTAMINATION OF FOOD MAORI INFANT’S DEATH (P.A.) WHANGAREI, Apl. 18. “ I have on a number of occasions drawn attention to the danger from house flies around Moerewa,” said Dr Frengley, medical superintendent of the Kawakawa Hospital, when stating at the inquest to-day on an infant Maori hoy that death was due to gastro-enteritis. Dr Frengley added that there were millions of flies in the place, which was one of a dozen camps on the river bank. The camps had no lavatory accommodation. " There are more cases of gastro-enter-itis among the Maoris and pakehas in Moerewa than in any other part of my district, and it is caused by the contamination of food and utensils by house flies.” Dr Frengley added.
