TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel It is officially announced that all horses over 11 years of age next August will be ineligible for the New Zealand TrotU When integrity won ill 4min 20 4-ssec he put up better time than Indian Clipper did in winning the Easter Handicap in 4min 22sec. Integrity won from a 4min A correspondent of the Trotting Calendar claims that there should be three races for trotters on each day s card Judged by the paucity of the entries for trotters' races, he is speaking for a horse that does not exist, and proof of this is supplied by the introduction of the half-hopple to control the gait of the trotter, who is supposed to be free-legged in action. There should be a prize foi a reinsman who can drive a trotter without sending it to a break in a race. Indian Clipper has qualified tor the New Zealand Trotting Cup. He has won three times this season, and in the Easter Handicap won in 4min 22sec from a 4min 28sec mark. The last half-mile wins run in 62 3-ssec. Indian Clipper was got by Jack Potts from Indian Author, by Author Dillon—lndian Child, by Harold Rothschild—Roaneke, by Indiana—Miranda, by Berlin Abdallah. The Addington track is too small for a big field of high-class performers. A field of 12 went to the post for the Easter Handicap, and there would not be too much room at the finish as Indian Clipper won by a head from Bronze Eagle. Joan Conquest was half a length away, and almost in line with her came Dusky Sound, Hardy Oak, and Burt Scott. This meant that six horses were spread across the track, and when that is tho position a horse is lucky to get a clear run. In fact, at times horses have been completely boxed in over the final furlong. Apparently owners of trotting brood mares are not afraid to mate them with a stallion with a strong infusion of the thoroughbred in his pedigree. Last season Springfield Globe had about 60 mares on his list. Springfield Globe was got by Globe Derby from Ayr, by Logan Pointer —Precision, by St. Swithin from Kildasa, by Kilcheran—ldada, by Seaton Delaval from Idas. This has been a good wining line. Idas won the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes and the Great Northern Foal Stakes. Seaton Delaval sired some good winners, including Nonette, one of the best three-year-olds seen in New Zealand.
