PRODUCTION SOARS

AMERICAN NAVY FIGHTERS OVER 28,000 PLANES THIS YEAR RUGBY, Apl. 3. The American Navy intends to build more fighter aircraft this year than in the five previous years combined, according to a statement in New York by the Under-secretary of the Navy, Mr J. V. Forrestel, who said: “ In 1939 we produced for the naval air service 238 combat planes; in 1940 the total had risen only to 245. The year 1941 brought a jump to 1500, the total for 1942 reached 4400. Last year we tripled our production again to turn out 13,500 navy combat planes. In 1944 we shall build 28,000 combat aeroplanes, more than in the -five previous years combined.” He added: “ In 1940 we completed for the fleet 29 combat ships. In 1943 we completed 568, and in 1944 we shall complete 581. “This nation, at the end of 1944, will have naval power and accompanying air power to match the naval forces of the rest of the world. Our national policy in the future will be largely based upon domination, either by ourselves or by our ally. Great Britain, of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.”
