ANNIVERSARY OF CITY CORPS The sixty-first anniversary meetings of the Dunedin City Corps of the Salvation Army, conducted by Adjutant and Mrs H. Manse Read, the corps officers, were concluded on Sunday evening. The first of this special scries of meetings was a soldiers' tea. Greetings from the-North Island were expressed by Brigadier F. Caporn, who is visiting Dunedin. Captain L. Rundle, officer in charge at North Dunedin, represented the officers and soldiers of the Southern Division. Adjutant Read and Envoy C. Brown replied. Miss Meda Paine, conducting the Cecelia Choir, presented an attractive programme which was well received. At the conclusion of the programme a hearty vote of thanks was proposed to the choir by the adjutant. The members of the choir were entertained at supper. On Sunday afternoon a special youth • programme was presented by the young people of the Dunedin City Corps, who were assisted by youth members of the South and North corps. A company of - 50 voices presented two rousing youth songs, which were conducted by Bandmaster A. Millard. The band accompanied the singing. ... Mr D. C. Cameron presided, and Adjutant Read referred briefly to his interest in the vouth of Dunedin. The adjutant said that the Salvation Army had recently introduced new youth movements, which were being well patronised. The latest move in this direction was the opening of rooms in Lower Stuart street, which would, when funds were sufficient, be opened as a Red Shield Youth Centre. This would allow the youth of the. city to spend their evenings at table games,-—-gymnastics, reading, etc. Mr Cameron spoke in support of this project. The Sunday evening meeting was devoted to presenting a Biblical tableau, which was ’ controlled by Adjutant and Mrs Read, who were assisted by Sergeantmajor Brown. Mrs C. Brown was at the piano.
