APPEAL TO KNITTERS
ASSISTANCE URGENTLY NEEDED
An urgent appeal lias been made by Mrs A. F. Woodgate (convener of the Patriotic Wool Committee) for helpers in the work of knitiing scarves, balaclavas, mittens, and pullovers for members of the armed forces. Mrs Woodgate has explained that the appeal is not directed to the women of the country, who, m spite of tlie fact that they are so busy, have done excellent work for the committee, nor to those town women who have dene so much for the Red _C.ro.ss. It is specially directed, however, to many women in the town who could assist. If all these women knitted 2oz of wool a week, said Mrs Woodgate, then the work would be accomplished in time for the winter months, when the knitted articles would he urgently needed by the soldiers. From Christchurch 3501 bof wool had been received, and 3001 b Jiad come from Dunedin (not 301 b and 351 b as inadvertently reported recently), and .a further 1001 b had been received from Dunedin on Wednesday. The shelves were full of wool.
