TRAVEL CLUB

An entertaining address on the art of travel was given by Mr Lloyd Powell, of London, to members of the Travel Club on Wednesday morning. It was the love of adventure, the speaker said, that gave zest to travel, and travellers were the best patriots, for they realised that their country was worth fighting for. Mr Pow'ell humorously recounted many amusing adventures which had befallen him in the course of the past 30 years, during which time he had travelled extensively in most parts of Europe and America.

A brief talk was also given by Miss Margaret Dunning, of Toronto, the newlyappointed director of physical education and recreation for the Y.W.C.A. in New Zealand. Miss Dunning spoke of war conditions in Canada, and referred to the importance of physical education for the constructive use of leisure hours after the war. Visitors welcomed by Mrs Richard Hudson were Mrs Ellis (Malaya). Mrs E. B. Clendon (Thames), Mrs M. Moore (Auckland), Miss Noeleen Vale. Miss Helen Welsh (Christchurch), Miss Winnie Beckett (Waimate), Mrs W. Thoms (Roxburgh), Mrs Talton (Nelson). Mrs G. L. Scott (Timaru), and Mrs R. N. Todd (Invercargill).
