PRIVATE J. M. C. McCONNELL, who was killed in Italy recently, was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Thomas McConnell, of Corstorphine road, Caversham. He was born in Dunedin and was a pupil of the Forbury and Caversham Schools, later attending the Otago Boys’ High School. He was keenly interested in sport, and was prominent as a cross-country runner in the Caversham Harrier Club. At the time of his departure with the Middle East Forces he was the South Island representative of Messrs C. Nathan and Co., and lived in Christchurch. He leaves a wife and a young son.
