Mr W. H. Whitaker left by the express yesterday for Blenheim. The president of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association (Mr G. W. Lane) and the secretary (Mr F. L. Hitchens) returned vesterday from Invercargill. The Auckland City Council at a meeting last night passed a resolution placing on record the valuable work of the town clerk, Mr J. Melling, and the city engineer, Mr J. Tyler, who are retiring from the council’s service and were attending their last meeting.
The New Zealand Gazette notifies the promotion of Sergeant A. A. Twaddle. R.N.Z.A.F., to the rank of wireless operator air gunner. Sergeant Twaddle, who is at present at Montreal, awaiting transfer to England, is a son of Mr and Mrs Twaddle, of Bushey Park, Palmerston. At the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association it was decided to convey to Mr If. F. Larsen the association's congratulations on his appointment as district officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce at Christchurch. and to thank him for his co-oper-ation with members while he was district officer at Dunedin.
Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were: Mr G. A. Durham, Mr and Mrs E. G. Young, Mr H. Pettit. L.A.C. C. L. Nees, and Captain S. Holm, for Wellington, Miss B. Martin, Mrs B. Clendon and Mr A. Lindsay for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Master Hardy and Mr A. J. Easter, from Auckland, Mrs R. Meek, Mr A. H. O'Keefre, Mr R. Hudson, Mr Carter and Mr Jessop, from Wellington, Mr H. S. Sinclair and Mr A. J. Pascoe from Christchurch.
