MARIANAS ATTACK

; SWEEPING ENEMY CLAIMS ; NEW YORK, Feb. 28. According to Tokio radio, a major 1 naval and air engagement preceded the United States attack on the Marianas on February 23. The Japanese claim to have inflicted the following losses on the American task force:—One carrier and three big warships,_ of which two are believed to be carriers, sunk, and one carrier damaged.
