WELCOME HOME

MEN ON FURLOUGH FUNCTION AT ST. KILDA A “ welcome home ” function to members of the second furlough party from the Middle East was held by the Mayor and Council and the residents of St. Kilda in the Coronation Hall last night. More than 30 members of the draft were present, and there was a large attendance of residents. The official party included the Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr N. D. Anderson), Mr J. J. Marlow (a former Mayor), Mr J. B. Grant and Colonel S. M. Satterth--waite (Area Commander). Mr Anderson, in a short address, extended a cordial welcome on behalf of the borough. He introduced Mr Grant, as the editor of the popular Newsletters, and mentioned that the occasion coincided with Mr Grant's eighty-first birthday. Mr Marlow also spoke A dance was held after the ceremony, and during the evening items were given by the St. Kilda Municipal Band, and songs were contributed by Miss Dorothy Sligo, Miss Rona Rhodes Mr G. de Lautour, Mr A. Marshall, and Mr W. B. Lambert. Mr D. Christensen played a cornet solo.
