CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Citizens’ Association was held on Wednesday evening. The president (Dr W. Newlands) occupied the chair, and there were present Messrs J. Kirkwood, P W Stabb, A. C. Cameron, J. Phillips, H. Reid A. Ibbotson, J. S. Skinner, R. S. McKenzie, G. Errington. R. S. Glendining, C T. Lee, M. Poulter, C, J. Wood, V. S. Jacobs. A. McMillan, F. M. Halsted. and R. Ellis - .. Several matters m connection with the forthcoming municipal elections were discussed. A letter was received from Mr D. C. Cameron thanking the association for its promise of support for the mayoralty. ' The chairman said that the majority' of the sitting councillors who had been nominated by the Citizens Association at the last election had intimated that their services would again be available if desired. In addition, several others had indicated that they would be available if they received the support of the Citizens’ Association. Several names were considered and satisfaction was expressed at the calibre of the candidates offering. The names of suitable candidates for the Hospital Board and the Harbour Board were also discussed. It was agreed that others be approached and tire final selection be made later by the full comrnittee. It was unanimously decided to nominate a full ticket of candidates for ail three public bodies, as it was felt that this would meet with Hie approval of the to a question. Dr Newlands said that he could give no information whether Mr A. H. Allen would seek renomination as Mayor as he N l\ a .f ra r l^ el 'tf 1 e Finance. Membership, and publicity sub-committees were set up. It was agreed that a campaign office be Opened in Princes street two or three months prior to the election.
