OAMARU GARRISON RESIGNS REFUSAL OF CONTEST PERMIT (Special) OAMARU, Feb. 11. As a result of the action of the Association's Contest Committee in refusing to grant a permit for a contest, the Oamaru Garrison Band has tendered its resignation from the Otago and Southland Bands’ Association. It was reported by the secretary (Bandsman W. R. F. Naylor) at the monthly meeting of the band, that advice had been received from the Otago and Southland B. and C. Grade Brass and Highland Pipe Bands’ Association, that the committee could not see its way clear to grant a permit for a contest at the end of February. The New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association, explained Bandsman Naylor, had agreed to the proposal, but permission had to be obtained from the provincial association, and this had been refused. The following resolutions, which were brought forward by the Band Committee, were carried:—l. “ That a letter be forwarded to the association regretting that it could not see Its way clear to grant a permit for a contest.” 2. “ Thai the band resign from the association." 3. “ That a new association be formed in Otago and Southland, for all brass bands irrespective of their grades."
