MONTHLY MEETING The Mayor (Mr J. C. Kirkness) Presided at the monthly meeting of the. Oamaiu Borough Council last night. There weie also present: Crs G. E. Glen, A. E. Hodge, H. M. Barclay. A. R. Tait F. Butterfield, D. V G. Smith. N. H. Colquhoun, W. R. Williams, J. Meikle, and L. Macrae The Salvation Army wrote requesting that portion of Thames street be maiked off for 'its use on Friday evenings. G The te North Otago Automobile Association was granted permission motorsigns for the guidance of visiting motor isfs who might wish to use i e P^su a a T a grant^f a 3 m 3 e s to'the New Zealand Institute for the Bimd was approved, and the institute was granted permusion to canvass the town in connection with the annual appeal this montn. The following grants were approved. Friendly Bay Society £ 50^, Oa l n jlcnH etv rison Band (balance) £25, Plunket Society £25, Salvation Army Band £lO. The reports of the acting-foreman and curator on the question of restoring McAdam avenue were adopted, the work to be carried out after the recent filling used in the trenches had consolidated. The curator reported that some o± tbe trees in the avenue would require to be replaced during the planting saas °P’. . The acting-foreman (Mr J. S. Stringer; reported that in addition to maintenance work a start had been made with tne tarsealing of streets and footpaths. The race inspector (Mr D. Fraser) reported that ■ a sharp drop at the end ot the year caused a shortage of supply, ana work had to be carried out during tne holiday period, 60 chains of gravel above the intake proper being removed and part of the wing dam reconditioned.
