PORTUGAL’S PROBLEMS

PLACE IN POST-WAR WORLD LONDON, Feb. 9. “ Portugal’s diffleuly is to reconcile her neutral foreign policy and her alliance with Britain with her political system," said the Prime Minister, Dr Salazar, addressing the leaders of the National Union Party. Dr Salazar added that after the war Portugal would be faced with the task of reconciling her fundamental principles with the principles of a new international organisation.

Forecasting the formation of great economic and political blocs, Dr Salazar said that Portugal must not stand still in the light of these world developments. He called on the party leaders to “proceed to the necessary revision of our doctrine.”
