Mis Parsons, of The Esplanade, St. Clair, has received cabled advice that her husband, Sergeant A. J. Parsons, has gained his commission in Italy. Sir Alfred Davidson, general manager of the Bank of New South Wales, and Lady Davidson, who have been on a visit to Dunedin, will leave for Oamaru to-day on their way north.
Mr John Leech lias been appointed judge of the vocal sections at the Wellington competitions, which will be held from August 19 to September 2. Mr Walter R. Wood will judge the elocutionary sections. The Very Rev. Dr Rossiter, C.M., who has been rector of Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, for the past ten years, has been appointed rector of St. Joseph’s College, Eastwood, Sydney. His successor at Holy Cross will be the Rev. Dr Courtenay, C.M., who has been a member of the college staff for several years. The manager of the Christchurch branch of Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Mr H. S. Lawrence, will retire on March 31, and Mr H. R. Williams, now manager at Invercargill, has been appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr Williams will be succeded at Invercargill by Mr D. Alexander, who is at present in charge of Te Kuiti branch. Mr E. L. Salmon, auctioneer at Auckland, will take up the management at Te Kuiti on April 1. Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were Mrs R. Richardson for Christchurch, Mr H. Stratmore, Mr W. R. Sneddon, Miss M. J. Martin, Mrs 11. Davis, Miss G. Crowe, and Mr A. Davis-Davidowski for Wellington, Mr and Mrs A. Todd and Mr H. R. Minn for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mr H. Doreen and Mr O. Winstone from Auckland, Mr A. E. Carrington, Mrs J. Burberry, Mr F. Eyles, Mrs A. Carrington,' Father McGlyn, and Mr Crowe from Wellington, Miss L. Dodd and Mrs Dee from Christchurch.
