FOILING BURGLARS

Unusual precautions taken to prevent unauthorised entry into a suburban store were described by a partner in a business when giving' evidence in the Auckland Supreme Court. It was stated that the precautions were taken as a result of previous experience of burglars. The witness said that the front door was of such a build that it could not be forced “ without a charge of gelignite.” There was a special apparatus on the back of the door and in the centre was a special panel with a steel plate and lock to it Steel plates were bolted on both sides of the door. Evidence was also given that a neighbour, who kept a watch on the store at night, always had a loaded shotffun ready in emergency. although the intimidation of burglars was not the sole purpose for keeping the gun.
