FINNISH GOVERNMENT
CHANGES REPORTED (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 8. Commenting on reports that the. Finnish Prime Minister, Professor Edwin Linkcmies, is on leave owing to illhealth, Reuter’s Agency says it is not improbable that he has decided to retire as discreetly as possible to avoid shouldering the responsibility for the ultimate consequences of Finnish policy. The -appointment as Acting Prime Minister of the Minister of Finance, M. Vaino Tanner, who has frequently been said to be the main obstacle to the conclusion of peace, may mean that the leading Finns have decided to continue the war to the
bitter end. Professor Linkomies, whose pro-German leanings had long been known, is reported to have changed his opinions considerably after a visit to Hungary a year ago. He became Prime Minister in March of last year. - A report from Stockholm says that a, Soviet uitimatum to Finland to withdraw from the war is expected to follow last night’s raids on Helsinki.
