EXECUTIONS IN WARSAW
SEQUEL TO KILLING OF GESTAPO CHIEF LONDON, Feb. 7. The Germans in Warsaw have been carrying out mass public executions since the assassination on February 1 of the Gestapo chief in Warsaw, Majorgeneral Fritz Kutchera. With five other Gestapo officials, Kutschera was driving down a street when a bomb was thrown at his car, which was then machine-gunned. All the Gestapo officers were killed. Kutschera was killed by order of the Polish Directorate of Underground Fighting, according to information from Foland quoted by The Times. The Germans carried out executions for two days following the killing, after which they announced that 100 members Of the Union of Polish Insurgents had been shot. The city of Warsaw was fined 100,000,000 zloty. A curfew is imposed every night at 7 o’clock and kinemas and theatres are temporarily closed. Kutschera, who was the third Gestapo chief appointed to Warsaw in the past eight months, was responsible for mass executions of hundreds of hostages last October and November.
