APPEALS TO COMMITTEE The Industrial Man-power Committee —Messrs M. W. Grantham (chairman), H. H. Gillard and W. B. Richardsheld a sitting yesterday to hear further appeals against directions by the acting man-power officer (Mr J. H. Flowers). An appeal by Mrs Audrey Bowie against refusal of permission to terminate her employment at the Bruce Woollen Mills was allowed. J. G. Lamb, at present employed at the Hillside Workshops, appealed against a direction to accept employment with the New Zealand Refrigeratin Cgompany—Appeal allowed. "An appeal by George E. V. Henry against direction to employment with the State Forestry Department, Ranfurly, was adjourned sine die. Mrs R. H. Houlihan appealed against refusal of permission to terminate her employment with the Bruce Woollen Mills.—The appeal was disallowed, subject to the appellant’s being employed as weaver at the mills. Mrs B. Hardgrave appealed against permission being granted to Pearl Riach to terminate her employment with the appellant—Decision was reserved, the board directing that Miss Riach be medically examined. Mrs E. M. Davie and Betty Davie appealed against the direction of the latter, at present engaged by McKenzie’s, Ltd., into employment at the National Mortgage and Agency Company’s bag factory—The appeal was disallowed.

An appeal by Mrs L. Downey against the direction of Bernice M. Downey, at present engaged by Romison’s, Ltd., into employment with the Roslyn Woollen Mills, was disallowed. A joint appeal was entered by Clifford L. Chettleburgh and H. J. Guthrie against the direction of Clifford Chettleburgh, at present engaged by H. J. Guthrie, into employment at the Roslyn Woollen Mills—Decision was reserved.

An appeal by the City Dye Works against the direction to Betty Horne to accept employment at the Roslyn Woollen Mills was disallowed, subject to a replacement for Miss Horne being found. , .

Mr S. de Beer appealed against the direction that his daughter, Mrs S. Dickson, at present engaged by Brown, Ewing and Co., should accept employment with the Roslyn Woollen Mills as a cutwear machinist.—The appeal was disallowed.

Macduffs, Ltd., .appealed against the direction of Moya Eva Flint to accept employment at Sargood’s, Ltd., clothing factory as a machinist. —The appeal was allowed.
